The 20 questions
1. What is a diode laser hair removal machine?
A diode laser is a solid-state laser that emits light at 808nm — a wavelength that targets melanin in the hair follicle while being absorbed less by surrounding skin than shorter wavelengths. It’s the most common laser type in clinics today, and the one most med-spas start with. It’s not the same as IPL (pulsed light); more on that below.
2. How does it work?
The laser heats the follicle to roughly 60–70°C through selective photothermolysis, damaging the hair bulb and the stem cells that regrow hair. The trick is delivering enough energy in a short pulse while contact cooling keeps the skin surface cool — so the follicle gets cooked and the skin doesn’t. On our machines, pulse duration runs 1–400ms and energy fluence 5–140 J/cm², with a triple cooling system (water + air + semiconductor) underneath. That’s why a good cooling system matters more than the number on the power dial.
3. Is diode laser hair removal permanent?
“Permanent” is a strong word, and honest clinics avoid it. The FDA describes the result as permanent hair *reduction* — a stable, long-term decrease in regrowth after a full course. Most clients keep long-lasting reduction, with an occasional touch-up once a year or so.
4. How many sessions are needed?
Visible results typically show within 3–5 sessions on modern triple-wavelength systems. For the deepest, longest-lasting reduction, we advise a full course spaced 4–6 weeks apart — hair grows in cycles (anagen, catagen, telogen), and the laser only kills follicles in the active growth phase. That’s why it can’t be done in one visit, no matter what the machine’s marketing says.
5. Which skin types can a diode laser treat?
A true triple-wavelength system covers the full range: 755nm for fine, light hair; 808nm as the all-round standard; 1064nm for dark skin and deep follicles. Together they safely treat Fitzpatrick skin types I–VI — every skin tone, every hair color, one machine. If your client base is diverse, that’s the difference between booking a client and referring them elsewhere.
6. Is it safe? What are the side effects?
Yes, when used properly. The most common side effects are temporary redness and mild swelling around treated follicles, usually gone within a few hours. Blistering or pigment changes almost always come from wrong settings, untrained operators, or machines with weak cooling. 7. How painful is it?
Most clients describe a well-cooled diode laser as a hot rubber band snap — uncomfortable but tolerable. With -42°C ICE PLUS sapphire cooling (our 1200W handle holds the contact temperature even lower), most clients need no numbing cream at all. Painful treatments are usually a sign the machine is pushing too much energy with too little cooling.
8. Diode laser vs IPL: which is better for a clinic?
Different tools. IPL is cheaper, gentler, and fine for maintenance, but its broad-spectrum light is less precise, needs more sessions, and results are harder to predict. Diode lasers give more consistent, longer-lasting results per session — which is why they’re the professional standard. 9. 808nm vs Alexandrite vs Nd:YAG: what’s the difference?
Wavelength is a trade-off. Alexandrite (755nm) is absorbed strongly by melanin, so it’s fast and effective on light skin but risky on dark skin. Nd:YAG (1064nm) goes deep and is safest for dark skin but less efficient on fine, light hair. 808nm sits in the middle — good enough for most skin types. 10. What’s the difference between an 808nm and a triple-wavelength diode laser?
A single-808 machine is a fine workhorse for a uniform client base. A 755+808+1064 system adds Alexandrite and Nd:YAG crystals, so you switch wavelengths per client — 755nm for light skin, 808nm as the default, 1064nm for dark skin or coarse hair. Our 4-wavelength Epilaze G even adds 940nm, which stimulates collagen as a skin-rejuvenation bonus on top of hair removal. 11. Is a diode laser machine worth the investment?
Let’s talk about what you’re actually buying. 12. What does maintenance really cost over time?
Less than most buyers expect — if the machine was designed for it. A 100-million-shot lifespan means the core laser source lasts for years of busy clinic use before any major component is due. 13. How long does a diode laser machine last?
A well-built 808nm laser runs 8–10 years in real clinics. Your machine shouldn’t feel outdated in three years; it should get better.
14. How fast is it? How many clients can I treat per day?

15. Do I need a special license or training?
Depends on your country — some require a medical license for laser operation, some don’t. What’s non-negotiable is operator training. Every machine we ship comes with training (remote or on-site) before first use, and our manual includes treatment protocols, not just “click here” instructions. 16. What certifications should the machine have?
Ours carry medical CE, ISO 13485, ROHS, and FDA — and we’ll show you the certificates, because they’re public. A factory that can’t produce these documents is a red flag, not because paperwork proves quality, but because getting certified forces a factory to keep consistent production records. Ask for the certificate numbers and verify them yourself.
17. How do I choose a reliable manufacturer?
Five checks we give every buyer before they sign anything: (1) how long they’ve been making laser devices, (2) client references you can actually call, (3) what happens when a component fails in year two, (4) whether they’ll show you the spare parts price list up front, (5) warranty in writing with response-time commitments. 18. What after-sales support should I expect?
At minimum: a written warranty, free training, and a support team that actually picks up the phone.
